Technical Characteristics

Product based on special binders (Portland cement-free), selected high-purity aggregates, pigments, synthetic resins, special fibres, and state-of-the-art additives.

Advantages and Uses

  • Grouting mortar for floors and wall rendering, for interior and exterior use, suitable for all types of ceramic tiles, porcelain stoneware, marble, granite, glass mosaic, and natural stone.
  • Suitable for grouting in areas subject to heavy traffic, residential areas, swimming pools, façades, balconies, terraces, and floors with underfloor heating.
  • AQUASTOP Effect: Repels surface water from the joint, creating a beading effect. Its low-porosity surface and minimal water absorption make the joint quite easy to clean.
  • Hygienic grouting mortar featuring BIOACTIVE TECHNOLOGY, which prevents the proliferation of organisms (fungi and algae) in damp environments. Bacteriostatic grouting mortar, providing an inert medium that prevents bacterial growth on its surface.
  • The product prevents the suspension of dust particles in the environment.
  • Low emission of VOCs.
  • Quick and easy to clean during application, providing an optimum finish in a brief time.
  • Grouting resistant to cracking and fissuring due to its low shrinkage, with high durability thanks to its high abrasion resistance and high mechanical strength, even under freeze/thaw cycles.
  • Uniform colours, thanks to technology that prevents salt efflorescence. Portland cement-free; therefore, the hydration of the product does not produce calcium hydroxide crystals, which can cause efflorescence, thus preventing unwanted effects on the colour and finish of the joint.
  • Colours resistant to UV radiation and outdoor exposure.
  • Good resistance to oils, solvents, alkalis, and acids with a pH > 3.

Suitable Substrates

  • Before grouting, wait until the adhesive has fully hardened, ensuring that the waiting time specified in its technical data sheet has elapsed.
  • Empty joints must be dry and clean, free from dust and adhesive residues along their entire length and depth and must have a uniform depth of at least 2/3 of the total thickness.
  • Some ceramic tiles may have micropores or a rough surface. A preliminary test is recommended to verify that the surface can be cleaned. Where necessary, apply PROTECMOR temporary pore filler to the surface to prevent potential pigment staining from penetrating the surface porosity of the tiles.

Application Procedure

  • Add water (19–25%), approximately 0.57–0.75 litres per 3 kg bag and mix manually or mechanically using a helical mixer at low speed (approximately 400 rpm), until a consistent (non-liquid), homogeneous, lump-free paste is obtained. Allow the paste to rest for 2 minutes and then remix.
  • Only mix an amount that can be used within 20–25 minutes of mixing.
  • Fill the joints using a rubber float, firmly compacting the material without leaving voids. Remove excess paste while it is still fresh by moving the rubber float diagonally across the joints and removing the surplus material.
  • Allow the material to dry slightly. After approximately 15–30 minutes, when the paste becomes matt, the surface can be cleaned using a large, slightly dampened hard sponge to avoid emptying the joints. Move the sponge in a circular motion to remove the excess hardened grout, then finish by moving the sponge diagonally across the joints. Rinse the sponge frequently with clean water and always use a consistent amount of water to prevent variations in colour.
  • Only once the product has hardened in the joint may the surface be polished with a clean, dry cloth to remove any remaining dust. Premature cleaning must be avoided, as if the grout is still in paste form, the joint may be reduced, and colour variations may occur.
  • If the tiles remain stained after the final cleaning, the DESMOR cement remover (see the instructions in its technical data sheet) may be used for cleaning. It must only be used on tiles with an acid-resistant surface, taking care to avoid contact with the joints. Rinse the tiles with clean water to prevent any acidic residues from remaining on the surface.
  • Grouted surfaces can be subjected to foot traffic 3 hours after application. They will be ready for use after 24 hours, or 48 hours in tanks and swimming pools.

Recommendations

  • Do not apply the product under 5ºC nor above 30ºC temperature.
  • Do not apply under the risk of frost, rain, heavy wind, or direct sun light.
  • Avoid adding excessive water as it may reduce the final performance of the grout. Do not use on surfaces subject to rising damp.
  • Fill the joints when the floor or render is completely dry.
  • In the case of highly absorbent tiles or remarkably elevated temperatures, before filling the joints, dampen them with clean water by passing a wet sponge over them, avoiding water pooling inside.
  • Do not clean the joint with strong acids or similar substances as it may affect its colour.
  • In tanks and swimming pools, wait at least 48 hours after grouting before the initial filling.
  • PEGOLAND PROFESIONAL JUNTA does not contain Portland cement and must not be mixed with gypsum or other hydraulic binders. Never mix with brackish or dirty water and never add water to a mix that has already started to set.
  • Where acid resistance or an important level of hygiene is required, MORCEMCOLOR EPOXI is recommended.
  • Ceramic tiling must never be installed without joints or laid butt jointed. Only in the case of tiles with good dimensional accuracy, for interior applications, on stable substrates and in floor installations not subject to mechanical requirements, may a minimum joint width of 1.5 mm be used, as specified in standard UNE 138002.
  • Do not use for expansion or movement joints, or in joints subject to structural movement of the building. These joints must be filled with a deformable material from the PUMALASTIC range.
  • The working times for the grout may be extended or reduced depending on the ambient temperature and the temperature of the mixing water.
  • Avoid cleaning with excess water or while the material is still fresh to prevent carbonation and surface tone variations due to pigment dispersion.
