Technical Characteristics

Product based on natural hydraulic lime, pozzolanic fillers, selected aggregates and special additives. Contains no cement.

Advantages and Uses

•    Chemically and mechanically compatible with substrates commonly found in building refurbishment.
•    Highly permeable, allowing the substrate to breathe.
•    High porosity promotes evaporation of water retained in the wall and helps prevent salt formation.
•    Bacteriostatic.
•    Very low capillary absorption.
•    Reduces condensation and mould growth indoors.
•    High adhesion to the substrate, easy application and excellent plasticity.
•    Float finish.
•    Manual or mechanical application.
•    Mortar with a low environmental footprint, manufactured with mineral-origin raw materials. It has an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).

Suitable Substrates

•    For application on brickwork, masonry and natural stone ashlar substrates, and on other porous substrates such as conventional mortars based on hydraulic and mineral binders.
•    Substrates must be strong, stable, sound and clean, free from dust, salt residues, release agents, old paint, organic products, etc.
•    At critical points (junctions between different materials, floor slabs, pillars, etc.), reinforce the mortar with alkali-resistant glass fibre mesh.
•    Thoroughly dampen the substrate and wait until the surface water film has disappeared before application.
•    On low-porosity substrates, increase roughness by mechanical means.
•    Remove any gypsum or plaster elements, as they are sensitive to moisture in the substrate.

Application Procedure

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
Remove the render to be renovated to at least 50 centimetres above the damp line. Clean the substrate beneath the coating. Clean areas affected by efflorescence. Remove any unsound or poorly cohesive areas. Fill using natural hydraulic lime-based mortars such as MORCEM® CAL MURO, avoiding the use of cement. Brush and wash thoroughly with water until saturated and wait until the surface sheen has disappeared.

MORTAR PREPARATION
Add water to MORCEM® CAL PORÓGENO mortar (between 4,75 and 5,25 litres per 25 kg bag) and mix with a mechanical mixer for at least 5 minutes until a homogeneous and workable consistency is obtained.

APPLICATION
Apply a regular bonding spatter coat of mixed MORCEM® CAL PORÓGENO mortar to the substrate, approximately 0,5 cm thick, leaving a rough finish to promote adhesion of the subsequent coat. Wait 24 hours after application to allow it to cure. After 24 hours, dampen the bonding coat and apply the MORCEM® CAL PORÓGENO render. Spread the mixed product over the damp substrate using a trowel, float or suitable rendering machine, avoiding excessive pressure so that the mortar pores remain open. Apply the mortar in coats no more than 20 mm thick each, to a final overall thickness of at least 20 mm and no more than 40 mm.

FINISH
Wait for initial hardening and finish once the material has reached the appropriate consistency, using a wooden float to promote mortar porosity. Cure the applied material during the 24 hours after application, preventing it from drying out. If a decorative finish is required, coat the render only with highly breathable materials such as Morcem® Cal Acabado or Pumacril Revestimiento Silicato, following the instructions for each product.

Recommendations

•    Do not apply below 5ºC or above 30ºC.
•    Do not apply where there is a risk of frost, rain, strong winds or direct sunlight, or when the substrate is hot.
•    Do not apply over gypsum or paint.
•    On heterogeneous or weak substrates, and for large thicknesses, reinforce the mortar with mesh (consult the Technical Department).
•    It is advisable to gently spray the product with water on the day after application.
•    Remove dust, dirt, friable areas and efflorescence from the wall.
•    Thoroughly dampen the substrate before application.
•    Applying successive coats over damp mortar ensures good adhesion and promotes hardening and setting.
•    Adjust the mixing water, avoiding excess, and allow the required working consistency to develop through mixing. Do not add gypsum, cement or other materials that may alter the mortar properties.
•    Do not coat MORCEM® CAL PORÓGENO with low-breathability materials (plastic paints, enamels, stone, ceramic, etc.).
•    In indoor applications, MORCEM® CAL PORÓGENO increases the relative humidity of the environment. Avoid application in unventilated areas.
•    The application height must extend 50 cm above the damp mark.
•    According to the CTE Basic Document on Health DB-HS 1: Protection against moisture, where the façade comprises a porous coating, it must be protected by a plinth or other material with a suction coefficient below 3% in order to protect it against rising damp and splashing. Keep the bottom edge of the coating at least one centimetre above the floor.

Packaging and Storage

25 kg plastic-lined paper bags. Store for up to 1 year in the original sealed packaging, protected from weather and moisture.
