Morcem® Dry SF

Surface waterproofing mortar that acts by saturating the concrete capillary network. Once mixed with water, it penetrates the interstices and capillaries of the concrete, combining with the free lime resulting from cement hydration to form insoluble crystals that block potential water paths through the concrete.

Technical Characteristics

Product based on high-strength white cement, selected aggregates, special admixtures, resins and active components.

Advantages and Uses

Surface waterproofing of concrete structures, for example:

  • Surface waterproofing of any type of concrete, whether dry or damp. In the latter case, the dampness disappears a few days after the product has been applied.
  • Water-retaining structures: tanks, ponds, fountains, swimming pools, channels, pipes, dams.
  • Waterproofing below the water table: basements, foundations, lift shafts.
  • Waterproofing of structures: diaphragm walls, rising damp in concrete walls, screeds with capillary moisture, tunnels.
  • Waterproofing of screeds with a “sandwich system”.
  • It can be applied both indoors and outdoors, as well as to floors, walls and ceilings.
  • Impermeable to liquid water and permeable to water vapour.
  • Chloride-free.
  • Easy to apply.

Suitable Substrates

  • Concrete, smooth precast concrete blocks and cement-rich renders.
  • The substrate must be firm (minimum tensile strength 1N/mm2), stable, sound and clean, free from dust, release agent residues, organic products, etc. The substrate must be firm and rough and free from laitance. Smooth, low-absorbency substrates must be mechanically treated (e.g. sandblasting).
  • Do not apply to modified or water-repellent substrates.
  • Do not apply to carbonated concrete; in carbonated concrete, carbonation hinders penetration and therefore surface waterproofing by saturation of the capillary network (the crystallisation reaction does not occur).
  • In hot or windy conditions, or on highly absorbent substrates, dampen the substrate and wait until the surface water film has disappeared.
  • Substrates not subject to significant movement.

Application Procedure

  • Add between 1 and 1,1 litres of water for a 5kg pack and between 5-5.5litres for a 25kg pack and mix manually or mechanically until a homogeneous, workable consistency is obtained.

APPLICATION AS A WATERPROOFING COATING

  • In the event of water ingress, it must first be treated with MORCEMREST OBTURADOR (rapid plugging mortar for water ingress points).
  • With the substrate damp, apply a first coat of product with a brush in a single direction; before the first coat has hardened (approximately 2 to 4 hours), apply a second coat crosswise, ensuring that the surface is covered uniformly.
  • The final finish can be achieved by smoothing with a trowel, or by floating with a sponge float, depending on the desired texture.
  • Wait at least 4 days before filling with water.
  • Wait at least 24-48 hours before covering with ceramic tiling.

SPRINKLE APPLICATION

  • Application over pre-screed or blinding concrete: Once the reinforcing steel has been positioned over the blinding concrete, dampen the latter to saturation and sprinkle MORCEMDRY SF evenly. Subsequent concreting must be carried out after approximately 1 to 2 hours, taking care not to damage or displace the waterproofing product.
  • Sprinkle application and floating: Once the concrete has been spread and begins to set, smooth it and then sprinkle MORCEMDRY SF evenly. Then float the surface to obtain a monolithic surface layer.

Recommendations

  • Do not apply below 5ºC nor above 30ºC.
  • Apply preferably on the positive side, i.e. the side receiving the water pressure.
  • When applied on the negative side, there is a risk of detachment if the water pressure exceeds the adhesion of the material.
  • Do not apply where there is a risk of frost, rain, strong winds or direct sunlight.
  • To ensure waterproofing, when used as a coating, the minimum thickness must be 2 mm.
  • In areas where movement may occur, such as shrinkage cracks in the substrate or critical points of the element to be waterproofed, it is recommended to reinforce the coating between the two coats with a strip of fine square mesh, MORCEMDRY MALLA, which must be positioned as carefully as possible, avoiding pockets or folds in the mesh. Glass fibre mesh sections must be joined by overlapping them by a minimum width of 5 cm.
  • At wall-to-wall, wall-to-screed and wall-to-ceiling junctions, application of a 5 x 5 cm cove of Morcemrest RF 35 is recommended.
  • When using the sprinkle application method on slabs or concrete screeds, a joint waterproofing system must be considered.
  • When applying the product in areas below the water table, the water table must be maintained by pumping during application and hardening of MORCEMDRY SF
  • Consult the Technical Department for any application not specified in this Technical Data Sheet.
  • For all information regarding safety in the handling, transport, storage and use of the product with the current version of the product Safety Data Sheet.
