Traditerm® PRO

Hydraulic mortar with fibre used as adhesive and cladding for expanded polystyrene thermal insulation panels (TRADITERM Panel EPS), expanded polystyrene with graphite (TRADITERM Panel EPS-G), mineral wool (TRADITERM Panel MW) and natural cork panels (TRADITERM Panel Corcho), in ETICS systems. This mortar is suitable for exterior thermal insulation system, it has excellent adhesion, it is weatherproof, and it is non-flammable. It is also permeable to water vapour.

Technical Caracteristics

Cement-based product, selected aggregates, additives, powder resin and fibre.

Advantages and Uses

  • Excellent adhesion.
  • Weatherproof.
  • Permeable to water vapour.
  • Easy to apply.
  • Non-flammable.
  • It creates a reinforced structure suitable for very technical applications.
  • Enhanced stress behaviour in response to thermal gradients compared to non-fibre products.
  • It increases durability due to the cohesion of the cement mixture provided by the fibres.
  • It increases the resistance against cracks.
  • It increases the resistance against impacts.

Suitable Substrates

  • All kind of walls even lightweight (Termoarcilla), light or normal concrete blocks (Cellular).
  • Smooth concrete.
  • Cement-based plastering and screeds, other one-coat mortars in good state.
  • Expanded polystyrene.
  • Neither the TRADITERM PRO mortar nor the complete SISTEMA can be applied outdoors or on walls with more than 10º slope.
  • Substrates must be clean and sound, they must moisten but not saturated. They must be resistant enough, stable, and free of dust or any other products that may damage the adhesion such as gypsum, release agents or paints.
  • All substrates must have an adequate flatness with no more than 1 cm slope (measured with a 2 m ruler). Otherwise, they must be corrected 24 hours in advance with any suitable mortar for the system.

Application Procedure

  • Mix the product with water until getting a homogeneous paste.
  • There are two diverse ways to fix the insulation panels to the substrate using the TRADITERM PRO mortar:
  • NOTCHED TROWEL
    • Spread and comb the TRADITERM PRO adhesive on top of the insulation panel using a 10 mm minimum notched trowel. It is the perfect way to obtain a homogeneous distribution of the adhesive along the panel.
    • Remove the TRADITERM PRO fringe near the panel’s perimeter (2 cm approximately).
    • This technique is used when the substrate’s flatness is below 5 mm, always using a 2 m scale.
  • CORD MORTAR METHOD
    • Mortar cords are applied, separated by 2 cm from the insulation panel edges. Inside the rectangle formed by the cords, add three blotches of TRADITERM PRO mortar.
    • This technique is used when the substrate’s flatness is between 5 to 10 mm, always using a 2 m scale.
  • Used as cladding for panels.
    • 24 hours after the installation of the insulation panels, the collocation of the fasteners and the corner beads installation, cover the panels. Make sure to remove any leftover material or slope between panels using sandpaper.
    • Directly spread over the insulation panel or on top of a previously reinforced with Malla TRADITERM surface, a TRADITERM PRO mortar coat, then use a n. 8 notched trowel to regularise the thickness.
    • Unroll the MALLA TRADITERM mesh from top to bottom, overlapping 10 cm at least among them, then press with a trowel on the furrows of the TRADITERM PRO mortar until it remains completely embedded in it. This coat should be at least 2 mm thick, and the grid of the embedded mesh should be visible on the surface.
    • Once this coat is slightly hardened and as soon as possible (usually the next day), a second coat of smooth but not float 2 mm TRADITERM PRO mortar will be applied to finish the surface render.
  • Once the reinforced coat of TRADITERM PRO mortar is hard and dry enough, but never before 2 days from the last application, you may proceed with the FONDO MORCEMCRIL acrylic primer, using a roller, paint brush or paint gun. 24 hours after, once it is completely dry, you may apply a finish coat of acrylic mortar from the MORCEMCRIL range.

Recommendations

  • Substrates (bricks, renders and concrete) must be clean (free from dust, paint, greases, or any other release agents).
  • On uneven substrates of more than 1 cm, it is advisable to regularize it beforehand.
  • Insulation panels should never cover the expansion joints of the building. Use the expansion bead.
  • To fix the mineral wool or natural cork panels to the substrate use the “Notched Trowel Method.”
  • To fix lower to 4 cm EPS and EPS-G panels use the “Notched Trowel Method”. Always protect the top part of the façade to avoid water filtration.
  • Do not apply the product under 5ºC nor above 30ºC temperature.
  • Do not apply under the risk of frost, rain, heavy wind, or direct sun light.
  • Do not apply in areas where there is a risk of stagnant water.
  • Under extreme weather conditions (high wind or elevated temperatures) drying occurs faster.
  • In areas where TRADITERM system is susceptible to direct impacts, it is recommended to reinforce the surface of the panels with a double coat of MALLA TRADITERM REFUERZO and a second coat of the standard MALLA TRADITERM.
  • TRADITERM PRO fibres do not substitute the use of MALLA TRADITERM
