Consolidante Silicato de Etilo

Esters in the silicic acid react with atmospheric humidity  and become silica gel and ethyl alcohol. The polycondensation reaction may be summarised as follow: [Si(OEt)4]n + 2 nH2O • nSiO2 + 4n EtOH.
Silica gel, thanks to its great chemical union with the substrate, provides the surface with new mechanic properties.

Instructions for use

  • CONSOLIDANTE SILICATO DE ETILO (Ethyl Silicic binder) is a ready to use product. Suitable for absorbent mineral substrates.
  • The  treated surface should be dry, cured and clean, free from efflorescence salts.
  • The product can be applied by immersion when it comes to spare pieces, or using paintbrushes or using a spray gun of low pressure (0,5 maximum) on claddings.
  • According to the type of material treated, we should always consider whether an application of the product until saturation in the substrate is adequate , or a partial priming , always assuring  we have reached the healthy nucleus of the substrate.
  • It is essential to carry out preliminary tests in order to verify:
    • The degree of consolidation or reinforcement achieved.
    • The yield of the product (generally between 0,5-3.0 l/m2)
    • The lack of chromatic variations on the treated material.
  • CONSOLIDANTE SILICATO DE ETILO (Ethyl Silicate binder) completes its reaction after 28 days approximately ( 20ºC temperature and relative humidity of 40-50%)

Cautions and recommendations

  • Room temperature should be between 10ºC and 25ºC.
  • The treated surface should not be exposed to direct sun radiation.
  • Protect the treated area from rain water for at least 7 days after its application.
  • In case  of applying an excess of product, it is possible to remove it, before its hardening,  using  compresses soaked in  mineral organic solvent (White Spirit, Ras Mineral, etc.)
  • Make sure the packaging is properly closed between applications, as the product may react with atmospheric humidity.
